REVIEW: Spend a day at World of Wedgwood, Staffordshire

World Of Wedgwood

World of Wedgwood is an award-winning tourist destination situated in Barlaston and one of the best days out in Staffordshire. Founded in 1759 by Josiah Wedgwood, it brings the story of this iconic ceramics brand to life through heritage, creativity and hands-on experiences. The site is home to the V&A Wedgwood Collection, Creative Studios, the working Wedgwood Factory, the Wedgwood Tea Room, plus stylish shops, cafés and bars.

It’s a must-visit for families, creatives and ceramics lovers alike; offering cultural insight alongside interactive fun. There’s always something happening too, with a lively programme of events during school holidays and festive periods. Plus, weekly Potter Tots sessions let little ones get hands-on with clay every Friday morning. Throughout the year, you’ll also find creative workshops and holistic events led by independent makers and local businesses.

World of Wedgwood Afternoon Tea for families

Did you know that World of Wedgwood offer an amazing Afternoon Tea that is family friendly? If you haven’t visited the Wedgwood Tea Room then you really need to add this to your list. The award-winning Wedgwood Tea Room is a beautiful restaurant at World of Wedgwood that offers breakfast, brunch, lunch and our iconic Wedgwood Afternoon Tea.

If you have dietary dietary requirements, then there are plenty of options, including vegan, vegetarian, dairy-free, and gluten-free options.

The World of Wedgwood Afternoon Tea is really special, and in all honesty, we loved that we could bring the children along to all enjoy the experience.

Beautifully presented, and in a stunning and relaxing setting, you will find sandwiches, homemade scones, picture perfect deserts all served on Wedgwood bone China. The Afternoon Tea is accompanied by a Wedgwood or coffee. For the younger visitors there is the Little Gardeners Afternoon Tea with a selection of sandwich triangles and sweet treats. We visited at Christmas time with a festive themed Afternoon Tea.

Pottery Painting at World of Wedgwood

Our favourite thing to do on a rainy afternoon is pottery painting and the decorating studio at World of Wedgwood is the perfect destination. Choose from various shapes and sizes to paint, including hanging decorations, pots, vases, lanterns, animals and even unicorns (subject to availability).

If you attend during Christmas there is a great range of Christmas themed ornaments, lanterns, plates and bowls for you to choose from. On the day, you can choose from water-based paints to take your item home the same day or choose the glaze and fire option, which will incur a wait time.

Then sit down and enjoy a few hours of pottery painting with a drink of two served in Wedgwood China. Staff are really helpful and around to help at all times if you have any queries.

Eating and Drinking at World of Wedgwood

Away from the Wedgwood tea room there are more options to eat and and drink at Wedgwood. Choose from SIXTOWNS by Bros Distillery; a working distillery producing delicious craft spirits inspired by Stoke-on-Trent’s rich Potteries heritage. You can enjoy a drink in the bar, and you can also shop their range of SIXTOWNS craft spirits, gifts and merchandise (I love their amazing gin bottles!).

If you wish to dine under moonlight (literally) then head to LUNAR, a unique dining experience at Wedgwood. The name takes inspiration from ‘The Lunar Society’, founded in the 1700s by a collective of great thinkers of the time which included Josiah Wedgwood himself as a founding member. Sourcing finest supplies and offering delicious and varied menu options whether you are opting for lunch, a multi-course meal, or a relaxed Sunday lunch, there is something for everyone.
