REVIEW: Cinderella at the Regent Theatre, Stoke on Trent

Cinderella panto Regent theatre review

A visit to the pantomime is a favourite Christmas tradition and the highlight of the festive season for many. Jonathan Wilkes returns for his 21st year, accompanied by Kai Owen who returned for his tenth year. And what a brilliant duo they are. They have an incredible partnership and their love for Stoke on Trent, and the community shines through.

Cinderella the Pantomime, Regent Theatre

Every year we enjoy a family outing and make our way to the Regent Theatre in Stoke on Trent for their annual panto and this year did not disappoint. The panto takes you along on the journey of Cinderella, who is played by the incredible talented Kirsty Ingram, who suffers under her ugly sisters (played by Amanda Coutts and Rebecca McKinnis). Helped along by her loyal friend Buttons (Jonathan Wilkes) and her Fairy Godmother (Rhiane Drummond) to transforms her from rags to riches. But the clock is ticking…..will Cinderella make it to the ball and will she find her Prince Charming?

Cinderella panto at Regent Stoke Review

Jonathan Wilkes is amazing on stage and has us in stitches every year. No panto is complete without the chaos of the 12 days of Christmas and five toilet rolls…… Beryl’s birthday and the yearly Jonathan Wilkes jokes. There are always a few levels to the panto jokes, and this year there were some great additions that had the tweens and teens laughing – (6-7 anyone?) The clever choice of songs including the panto take on ‘APT’ had my 9 year old dancing away.

Honestly we love the panto every Christmas, and this year didn’t disappoint – I love to see my parents laughing away and Jonathan and Kai are a hilarious and winning partnership. The talent is evident throughout the show, and the ensemble also need a mention as their energy and polished moves were first class.

How long is the show?

The show runs for approx 2 hours 30 minutes including the interval.

What age is it suitable for?

Cinderella final thoughts

We always come away from the panto with a huge smile and full heart, and this year didn’t disappoint. it kick starts Christmas for us every year and we love it. Jonathan Wilkes has returned for his 21st year and I hope he continues for many more. With hilarious jokes, sleek moves, an abundance of chaos and plenty of audience participation, the Stoke panto for 2025 is magical.
